Phase I

1. Assessing Prior Knowledge:
To assess the students prior knowledge of working with money I will ensure the students know the value of the penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar bill by giving the students a worksheet that will require that the students combine coins to make a dollar.  I will show 2 videos that will reinforce the value of each coin and the dollar bill using these links,

2. Plans Instruction:
The standard for the lesson is for the students to correctly solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately.  By allowing the students to use manipulatives such as, play money, it will give the students a better understanding of how to combine money and associate word problems with actual money. The students will be playing an online game to reinforce what they have learned in the lesson.  The game requires the students to be the cashier and they will have the opportunity to read the question and give the person the correct change.  This game is a fun, interactive way for the students to learn this concept.  http://www.math-play.com/money-game-2/Money-Game.html

3. Designing Instruction:
To ensure that the instructional design for this lesson was organized I made sure the standard was taken into complete consideration.  It was important to ensure the lesson was taught in a manner that would engage the students and would also have the objective of teaching the standard.  The lessson revolves around money which is a concept that can be made easily relatable.  The students will be exposed to variations of instruction to ensure their understanding of the standard.  The students will be shown the youtube videos to reinforce what they have previously learned, online money games to learn concept, and worksheets to assess learning. It was important to incorporate technology into the lesson plan because technology is so important to the students and it is an excellent way for the students to learn different concepts.

4. Planning Assessment:
The assessment is a worksheet that assess the students capabiltiy of reading money word problems and solving them correctly.  The assessment does not require the students to solve any problems using their own understanding.  It was important to ensure the assessment would only test students knowledge of the material after being given the lesson.  The word problems were catered to what the students learned in class and were very similar to the problems worked on in class.  The online money game is another form of assessment although their performance is not recorded it requires that the student be knowledgeable in order to be successful in the game, therefore, the students to continue to practice and develop their skills of the concept.

  3. Angie-
    Preparation-
I like how you reviewed with the students the value of the money. I absolutely loved the video you showed about the content of money and how each where related to make one another. For example the song stated 100 pennies make one dollar. Excellent!to engage the students.
    Content-
From now on I will try to find more games and songs for my lesson plans. It kept me engage even though I knew the content from experience. I believe you addresed different learning styles from the different things you had for them to use; the video, manipulatives, games, and finally the worksheet.
    Individual Needs-
The manipulatives is a great accomodations for those who need a slower pace instruccion.
Assesment- The worksheet was simple as an introduccion for money and wordproblems. Great Job:)
